Indian Blanket is a vibrant southern native that produces red and yellow flowers for months while feeding bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Its lightweight and fluffy seeds can be difficult to handle and often blow away. Each seed is formed into a visible pellet, making it easy to plant and actually stay where it lands.

Indian Blanket (Gaillardia pulchella) is native to the southern and central United States, where it naturally grows in prairies, sandy plains, coastal dunes, roadsides, and other open, sunny habitats. Its vibrant red and yellow blooms flower from late spring through fall, making it one of the longest-blooming native annual wildflowers.

Best suited for: Full sun, sandy to average well drained soil, and low moisture once established. Direct sow for best results. Deadheading encourages more blooms, while leaving spent flowers allows plants to reseed naturally and provides food for birds.
RAKE
Clear away weeds and debris, then loosen the top inch of soil. Good prep helps the seeds make proper contact with the soil.
SHAKE
Shake pellets evenly across your area (~1 inch apart). Each pellet contains one seed, so spacing stays consistent and planting stays controlled.
PAT
Rake or pat seeds snug into the soil. This keeps them in place and ensures strong seed-to-soil contact.
WATER
Water once or twice daily. The soil should look dark, like a damp sponge for the first 2-3 weeks to to kickstart germination.
