Utah Sweetvetch is a hardy western perennial with rosy-pink flowers that feed bees while helping improve low-nutrient soil. Its hard seed coat can prevent water from entering and make establishment difficult. Each seed is scarified, GermiSync™ coated, and formed into a visible pellet for easier planting and reliable establishment.
Where It Grows
Utah Sweetvetch (Hedysarum boreale) is a native perennial legume of the Intermountain West and northern Great Plains, found on dry prairies, sagebrush slopes, and open mountain meadows from the Rockies to the high plains.
Native states: AZ, CO, ID, KS, MT, ND, NM, NV, OK, OR, SD, TX, UT, WY
Best suited for: Full sun, well-drained to dry soil, low to moderate moisture. Drought tolerant; fixes nitrogen in the soil, improving soil health over time. USDA Hardiness Zones 3–7.
RAKE
Clear away weeds and debris, then loosen the top inch of soil. Good prep helps the seeds make proper contact with the soil.
SHAKE
Shake pellets evenly across your area (~1 inch apart). Each pellet contains one seed, so spacing stays consistent and planting stays controlled.
PAT
Rake or pat seeds snug into the soil. This keeps them in place and ensures strong seed-to-soil contact.
WATER
Water once or twice daily. The soil should look dark, like a damp sponge for the first 2-3 weeks to to kickstart germination.
